Very true. If you are in Potomac -- Cold Spring, Wayside, Potomac Elementary area, you are pretty much protected from ending up somewhere bad. That is why we pay so much for our houses people!!
You're tempting fate.
LOL...I am not worried in the least.
If they can bus Kensington kids all the way from Einstein to WJ, they can bus anyone anywhere.
That's just 4 miles. The county is 500 square miles.
That seems irrelevant. Distances are a linear measurement. A square that is around 22 miles across is also 500 sq miles. Point being is 4 miles is significant in terms of moco busing.
Who cares! If they wanted to bus Wootton kids 10 miles to put an end to segregation at the W's I'd be for it.
This is so stupid. Not only is it an environmental issue, but the traffic would be terrible. And it is not right to ask a K student to get up an extra hour earlier to get on a minimum 45min bus trip. This also removes the option of outside activities and ES kids would be walking home after dark in the winter since ES gets done 3:25pm or 3:55pm without tacking on a rush hour commute across the county and multiple stops. You have an over 8 hour day for 5 year olds just to get more rich white people in poor schools to mask the problem and test scores that MCPS sucks at teaching? It isn’t the fault of kids or families or even MCPS that the county does not build affordable housing everywhere. Making criss cross pattern all over the county with no real neighborhood school appeal, will just decrease volunteerism, donations, PTA, night activities people won’t drive to, and more. And I say this from a very diverse public in Rockville, not a W school. It won’t work and it is a huge cost and time issue.
+1 Stop all the magnet buses too. The whole process is ridiculous, especially since all schools are so large and offer AP's and plenty of classes. Just get a gifted program in each ES and MS. It would have to be cheaper than the bloated administration overhead with the all these special school application process and the all the bussing.
