See, thing is you won't even need to. This is what his supporters want. The "wrecking ball" approach. It's Trumpism. They are frustrated with how the county government has run things (and rightly so), and instead of the hard work and critical thinking it takes to get to the root of the problem, they'd rather let the whole county burn.
I get that high property taxes are a major concern. So is the budget shortfall. IMO these problems are a result of too much developer influence in county government (when they don't pay impact taxes for infrastructure, you do, or it goes unfunded) and bad procurement policy. You'll want someone who has the knowledge and the creative thinking to approach both, so that a high quality of life will attract young, high-potential earning employees and bolster the local small and mid-size business economy.
Robin Ficker is good at shouting and complaining, that's about it. I watched a live stream of the debate last week and these were his talking points, aside from claiming to throw skin-deep support behind initiatives that appear to be popular, even if they contradict each other:
"Amazon is going to come here and solve all of our problems because Amazon is a Friend of Ficker." (No Amazon executive recognized Ficker's visit)
"Vote for me because I'm not from Takoma Park" (and...?)
"The ICC should be free" (how exactly would this alleviate taxes or traffic? sounds like it's a net negative for both)
"The other two are term limited tax increase specialists" (so what is your alternative plan? ever consider the reason why?)
"I represented African Americans as a defense attorney" (Great, I also have a black friend. Also, wasn't that your JOB?)
"I am a friend of the environment" (Didn't you just propose widening i-270 and other more car-friendly objectives?)
"Don't open a homeless shelter because homeless people should get jobs at Amazon" (???)
"Our streets will be safer because if I'm Executive, we'll bring the FBI here! AND Amazon!" (???????)
"I'm not a couch potato, look how out of shape Marc is! Every kid should run a mile! And spend more time in libraries" (each point accurate but completely irrelevant and who knows even what the question was)
Robin Ficker is not a Larry Hogan Republican. I don't even think he's any consistent strain of Republican. He's just a moron. The people inclined to vote for him are the people who support Trump because they are pissed at everything.
