Because, of course, what murderer wouldn't want constant news coverage and nationwide scrutiny, not to mention the bonus of having teams of lawyers and pathologists analyze every aspect of their victim's death. No? Not that? Perhaps they let Lane drown accidentally and then decided that the best way to escape any chance of child neglect charges was to pin the blame on the nearby alligator.
