I think the point is, PP, that most park guests do not expect a REAL allogator of any size in a water ride inside a Disney park. I have a hard time understanding how it got into the park--I know they say drain pipes, but are there not covers/strainers to keep gators out?


Because it is a 47 square mile park with tons of water in the middle of FLORIDA. Flies and spiders and snakes get in too. Can you believe it, nature has no idea it should stay out of Disney

RE: Snakes - If a disney cast member spots a snake at the amusement park or resort, I would expect them to remove it.

Ditto for freaking alligators.

The disney boardwalk area is elevated from the water and there's a fence---so nobody can wade in the water. The adjacent property has a beach--like the one where the gator killed the boy. They need to make it impossible for people to wade and impossible for gators to get out of the water. Raise the shoreline and erect a fence...it's not hard (they've already done it for other purposes (docks for boats) at other areas of the resort).

If they wanted to keep gators out, they could. Or at the very least they could proactively remove them instead of pretending they are harmless resort pets.

Yea, I get it that the ENTIRE WDW resort is over 47 miles, but Magic Kingdom is probably under 3 miles. Frontierland is such a small area to monitor for alligators.

The key issue is awareness, and the San Diego guy's story of management's previous nonresponse would be utterly damning. They. Knew. There. Was. A. Problem. And did not post appropriate signs or take other measures. Absolutely sickening. If the parents choose to sue, and endure the second horror of a lawsuit, I am convinced that they will prevai to the tune of untold billions. Disney will do everything in its power to avoid a jury. Every dirty little secret would get out.

O-kay...they think that Lane's murdering parents chose to kill their child in Disneyworld, the most public place imaginable. Because, of course, what murderer wouldn't want constant news coverage and nationwide scrutiny, not to mention the bonus of having teams of lawyers and pathologists analyze every aspect of their victim's death. No? Not that? Perhaps they let Lane drown accidentally and then decided that the best way to escape any chance of child neglect charges was to pin the blame on the nearby alligator. To make their story more convincing, they managed to get the alligator to bite Lane and the father proceeded to pretend to fight the alligator bare handed. Eh...I don't think so either.

My husband and I were discussing the fact that we would never let a child in water like that -- even if I didn't know about the alligators, that looks like perfect water mocassin habitat.
