Live in Virginia. A couple moved in next door a year or so ago. Haven’t met them — they keep to themselves, whatever. One has a car with Wisconsin plates. One with California plates. I suppose they could be exempt but we live in Western Loudoun so I doubt they work on the Hill or are in the military. They probably can't afford the high Virginia car tax.
I've lived in Virginia for 25 years and have no problem paying the car tax. The secret is to own reasonably-priced cars rather than the latest Tesla.
Preach. I live in VA and drive a 2004 Lexus. My car tax has been something around $25. Since my car is now 22 years old I'm hoping the tax goes down even more.
