I posted this because so many MYOB Karens think there is no problem with those out of state expired tags. Thanks for pointing out reasons.

You people are absurd. Of course you can have insurance with expired plates. Expired tags =\= no insurance.
+1 You can even have a current registration with expired tags. Maybe you forgot to put the new sticker on.
What a bunch of miserable busybodies.
+1. I'm surprised no one mentioned this possibility earlier. My bro (probably undiagnosed adhd) is current on payments but he is bad about putting new reg and insurance cards in the glove compartment and putting on the new sticker. He'd help anyone out in a second. TG he doesn't have a neighbor like you.
Why is everyone so outraged anyway? I really don't see why all the love for people not registering their cars appropriately. I think the "military reason" was dealt with.

One has a car with Wisconsin plates. One with California plates. I suppose they could be exempt but we live in Western Loudoun so I doubt they work on the Hill or are in the military.
I ended up behind the car with California plates today at a stop sign as we both pulled out of our driveways at the same time. The plates expired in June 2024.
I am normally a live and let live person, but tax avoidance costs everyone more. Would you report this if you were in my shoes? I am trying to decide…

Sheesh, many people live paycheck to paycheck. They probably can't afford the high Virginia car tax.
I've lived in Virginia for 25 years and have no problem paying the car tax. The secret is to own reasonably-priced cars rather than the latest Tesla.

I waited 3 years but after I left I reported her for residency fraud. I hope it bankrupted her.
I mean, isn't that on you? You were complicit if you forwarded anything along to her. It's not exactly like you can just state a random address and it's now your residence.
