People realize this was a CR right? Meaning - the Dems wouldn't sign off on a CR. The budgeted items passed prior to CR takes center stage whether CR passes or not. In other words, the premiums are still going up whether the shutdown happened or not. The only thing the Dems achieved is going on record to disagree with the CR. I'm confused as to why shutting down (and it's not even 100% shutdown to add insult to injury because it's then working for no money for a lot of folks) was a good idea for such a short time? Once 11/1 hits, the Republicans get their raised premiums no?
It's good if it is a short time, because then no real damage, and also people will credit Democrats for wanting to stop premium increases.
But there's NO leverage for the Dems in going this shutdown. The Rep have no reason to negotiate with them given that holding out to 11/1 assures them if the price hike. I mean it's not even the entire govt down just more people don't get paid to work! WTF? I'm a Dem and am done with them. This is a ridiculous experiment except that it's real people they impact. It's a bad hill to die on. So now how are they going to get out of this mess? They will need to cave, sooner or later. The CR was only till end Nov anyway so I don't think anything will be moving will after Thanksgiving. Will be pain for all :(
