The Dems need to let everyone get their insurance bills for next year.
Then reopen the government and let the Rs twist in the wind.
Why wait until the bills are out? Senate Dems need to take credit for raising awareness and agree to reopen because this is screwing up the economy and Feds and contractors need to get back to work.
Because if they swoop in and fix the subsidies now, Americans won't feel the pain of the GOP's cruelty.
And they need to feel the pain of electing this a-hole.
They just can’t screw up the messaging.
They have to make it very clear that they tried to pull the only levers they had to help the American people as best they could and that Trump shut down the government anyway. He doesn’t care about America. He doesn’t care about Americans. Many Americans went weeks suffering to try to keep the Epstein files secret.
They’re willing to reopen the government in which Trump controls all three branches of governmentto save people pain that Trump has caused them, but let it be clear, long-term pain will become apparent shortly. Then talk about premiums costs and inflation.
The only concession they ask at this point is to seat and swearingduly elected officials. We need Mike Johnson’s word on record.
messaging is not why Democrats continue to lose
Democrat's policies and actions are causing young people to abandon the party.
Biden expanded immigration thru out his entire term. Biden, and Harris the Border Czar, created the disaster that lost the election to an idiot like Trump.
In his first 100 days in office, Biden signed more than 60 executive actions, 24 of which are direct reversals of Trump’s policies.
Biden has defended the number as necessary to undo what he considers “bad policy” inherited from Trump, especially on immigration.
To date, 10 of his 12 actions on immigration are reversals of Trump’s policies.
“And I want to make it clear — there’s a lot of talk, with good reason, about the number of executive orders that I have signed — I’m not making new law; I’m eliminating bad policy,” Biden said as he signed a series of actions on immigration from the Oval Office on February 2. “What I’m doing is taking on the issues that — 99% of them — that the president, the last president of the United States, issued executive orders I felt were very counterproductive to our security, counterproductive to who we are as a country, particularly in the area of immigration.”

Meaning - the Dems wouldn't sign off on a CR.
The budgeted items passed prior to CR takes center stage whether CR passes or not.
In other words, the premiums are still going up whether the shutdown happened or not. The only thing the Dems achieved is going on record to disagree with the CR.
I'm confused as to why shutting down (and it's not even 100% shutdown to add insult to injury because it's then working for no money for a lot of folks) was a good idea for such a short time? Once 11/1 hits, the Republicans get their raised premiums no?
It's good if it is a short time, because then no real damage, and also people will credit Democrats for wanting to stop premium increases.

At this point, it isn't about the CR. The GOP House needs to pass an actual budget and send it to the Senate. That was supposed to happen two weeks ago. Being on Epstein Break is what brought the county to a stand still.
I don't care at this point whether they pass an "actual budget" or not. Budgets no longer mean anything in the US. Congress doesn't care to do its job passing and defending their appropriations bills. It doesn't matter anyway because Trump and Vought will break the law, blatantly and repeatedly and SCOTUS will support them after the fact because SCOTUS is as corrupt as Congress. The Republican unwillingness to do any work while this shutdown is happening is disgusting, but Dems need to do what they need to do and get the government open and get the Rs back in session. Dems don't have the numbers, they can do nothing in the long run. This shutdown is officially pointless. Lots of Feds seem to be excepted or recalled this time around, so work is still getting done but we can't get paid. Guess what, I need to get paid. End of story.

However, for those factories and companies to operate, there must be workers willing to labor for much lower wages. The recent cuts to SNAP and Medicaid benefits for all able-bodied individuals appear to be part of a calculated strategy. History seems to be repeating itself—think back to the Hoover presidency. This approach appears designed to create economic desperation, forcing people to accept lower-paying jobs in order to feed their families. It’s all part of a much larger industrial plan to restore business and reshape the labor market within the United States. The Dems and Republicans benefit, this is not one sided stop thinking so small.
The Republicans are operating on a notion of "we need to cut SNAP because it will force lazy moochers to work" except a sizeable percentage of SNAP recipients are already working. and the remainder who aren't working often have issues such as disabilities that make it hard for them to work, including disabled veterans. That is who they will be cutting off.
Work for lower wages? I recall an article a little while back talking about how 13.5% of the Walmart employees in Ohio were collecting SNAP. They already can't afford to feed their families yet MAGA wants to cut their SNAP *and* pay them less.
It's unreal.
12.3 percent of Americans are on snap benefits. It would make a massive economic dent. It is going to drop food sales in low income areas and the theft is going to go through the roof.
