My theory is that the virus isn’t “weakening” but rather there are a limited number of people who are susceptible to the worst illness it causes. See the article pp posted about T-cells — there are at least three studies showing that some % — perhaps as high as 50% in some areas — of people have T cells that recognize and attack COVID-19. They think these can be from SARS and other yet unidentified coronaviruses. Hence the high number of people who don’t get it when exposed and/or are asymptotic.[/quote]
