One of the Stanford statisticians (who was widely derided on here earlier this spring) pointed out that no matter what a country does (regarding shutdowns or not), every place more or less follows the same pattern. It's just the severity of the pattern that varies. This, combined with the Italian doctors' observation about the declining viral load (which makes perfect scientific sense and is following the pattern of may viruses in weakening over time) does make me think we could really see this virus fade away over the next few months. I don't think it'll disappear completely but it'll become far less lethal and much more akin to a "bad" flu season.
