They have also leaned into having effectively year-round lacrosse players, which is a want for some kids.
Current parent of a lower school boy who aspires to play college lacrosse or so he thinks he does... I happened to play lacrosse in the Ivy League in the 90s, I played football in the fall, and played hoops in the winter even though I was not any good at it. While times are a lot different today from when I was playing ball, I want my son to be able to "take a break" from lacrosse and play at least a 2nd sport in MS and HS. I'd be wary of any HS coach pushing his players to "play year-round lax". If you look at most of the top players in college, I'd estimate 75% of them played a 2nd sport in HS and really excelled at it too. Uncle Rico, no one cares about your resume. Lot's of former players on these posts, you do not need to "qualify" your statements with I am smarter because I played in the IVY league posts. However, you are correct 2 sport athletes are making a comeback. UVA and UMD know this. However, I think kids can play a primary sport year round so long as the "off season" is truly that maybe once or twice a week to keep the skill set strong.

Every player can make their own decisions on if they are gonna play multiple sports in HS. Are you playing the other sport and making a difference or do you just want to be part of the team? WCAC Football and Basketball are on a different level over IAC schools so you risk injury and you usually won’t get on the field. There have been players that play multiple sports at WCAC schools and get on the field but the other sport is usually priority over lacrosse. Duenkel and Tasty both played FB but they decided to focus on lax after a couple of seasons of doing both. Seems that decision paid off. Number one players at their positions.
