DS: Behr He's a toddler and will be our one and only.
Behr is your miracle baby, you had him after a long struggle with infertility and many miscarriages. Behr is extremely precocious and was an early talker but late walker. He is the only grandchild on at least one side of the family and so is very doted upon. You worry about Behr so much, you have never used a nonfamily babysitter. Behr was a family name from the maternal side. You chose to hyphenate your name. Both of you are working full-time but you are thinking of cutting back your hours/switching to a more family friendly job so you can spend more time with Behr.
I love this story, I wish it was all ours! Behr is our miracle baby- but for different reasons. Drs told us, while I was pregnant that he'd never walk and had spina bifida. He's been walking for about a year now- and I still get excited each time I see him take a step! He's a determined little bug! He has intense delays and I do worry, tons. Spot on about the only using family sitters. And- I just switched careers and will be working at his preschool next year, although obviously not his teacher. And yup- only grandkid!
Wow, I had some eeriely close guesses. I'm so glad to hear that Behr is doing so much better than what the doctors anticipated. He sounds like he's got a determined personality that will help him in so many ways throughout life. Great that he's walking!!! Having a dedicated mom helping him is going to be such a boon and while you will have some tough times, I think he'll continue to do better than expected. In your post, you sound much like many of the best moms I know--the ones who are realistic about their kids' personal strengths and weaknesses and who work with them to help them achieve their potential. Good luck to you and little Behr.
