Some kids (a small minority) in my DD's MS (MCPS) were doing this. One girl got pregnant in 8th grade. Everyone in the school knew about it and it was prevalent enough that trash talking about the topic was common. Many of these kids were from less than stellar homes. Someone should post the teen pregnancy stats of graduating MCPS HS. Sexual activity is not uncommon in MS and HS. In more affluent areas the girls are on BC pills or use other forms of contraceptives.
I taught HS in MCPS for a number of years. Most of the girls rumored to be pregnant never gave birth. While some of them had abortions or miscarried, I suspect most were just the victim of rumors or bullying. "Julie" throws up or gains 5 lbs, she must be pregnant. Even as a teacher, I constantly heard rumors that I was pregnant. Teen births do sideline a lot of Latinas in MCPS, but they aren't the only ones having sex. Just the ones who don't have/use good BC. White and black girls seem more likely to abort if they get pregnant. I haven't had a single student give a baby up for adoption although this happened frequently when I was in college and almost all of my friends who have adopted babies received newborns from high school age moms.
