From the Wealth Tax thread - "wealth taxes are unconstitutional!!!" Are you sure? A wealth tax could be classified as an excise tax rather than a direct tax, meaning it wouldn't require apportionment among the states. Some legal scholars have already argued that taxing unrealized capital gains or financial transactions falls within Congress’s broad taxing power under the Sixteenth Amendment, which allows taxation on income without apportionment. Additionally, precedents show that the Supreme Court has historically interpreted tax classifications flexibly, leaving room for a wealth tax to be structured in a way that aligns with constitutional requirements.
You realize that unrealized capital gains are not income, right? Do you even know that that means? If the dems try to ram that through, then they will truly be over. The first thing the dems need to do is start explaining where all their wealth is coming from? Until there is transparency from AOC, Warren, Schumer, and the others, people will not come back. They are fraudsters and the people just don't trust them anymore.
No. They don't realize that because they want to grab your retirement savings. Sure, it may not be in "retirement" funds, but some people still plan on retiring without poverty and invest rather than spend on expensive trips, etc. People used to save for their "old age." But, with Social Security (which was only intended as a safety net) they think they don't need to prepare for retirement.
