Why are posters so insistent that no Nottingham kids will end up at Jamestown?
I was thinking same and just went to look at boundary map. It's easy to visualize how some Nottingham kids could end up at Jamestown.
More likely a bunch of Discovery kids end up at Jamestown and Taylor. I think Tuckahoe is left pretty intact (probably picks up the 2 straggling PUs currently bused to Nottingham) and Discovery picks up most of the Notties. They'll be reunited with the former Notties.
APS says in pre-CIP that Nottingham will go to Tuckahoe and Discovery, except for pre-K which ends up at Taylor. More than just 2 planning units end up at Tuckahoe based on the numbers they state, and then to prevent that school from being even more overcrowded, existing Tuckahoe kids end up elsewhere. And when Nottingham kids end up at Discovery, Discovery end up at Jamestown and Taylor. The whole point is everyone gets scrambled when Nottingham closes.
Cardinal can’t take any more kids. Tuckahoe kids are not going there. They’re not going to mess with cardinal which would have massive ripple effects as all the schools in the middle of the county where they would then send Cardinal kids (Ashlawn/Glebe) are beyond full. I think most of Nottingham goes to Discovery and a good chunk of Discovery goes to Taylor or Jamestown.
All the boundaries in NA will be redrawn in 2026. It doesn’t matter that you think they won’t mess with your school: they will.
Dumb
Yep. Closing a school has consequences beyond just that school.
Yes they will start messing with fully enrolled schools when there are plenty of under enrolled ones to choose from just because. That’s what will happen.
Yes they will. Because the under enrolled schools aren't all conveniently next to each other.
What are you talking about. They are. Its easy to shift Discovery kids to Jamestown and Taylor to make room for Nottingham kids.
You might want to look at the Tuckahoe walkzone - Plenty of Nottingham students are going to Tuckahoe which can't take anymore trailers.
You people are so new here. The walk zones don’t matter.
What does matter are the students that don't want to leave Discovery and Tuckahoe has limited capacity. That will force students into Cardinal (who should go there below Langston). This will create a domino effect pushing students out of Cardinal to Ashlawn.
So your argument is that instead of pissing off Discovery they will piss off Cardinal. So they will move no one from Discovery, leave Jamestown and Taylor significantly under enrolled and instead shuffle kids from Cardinal to Ashlawn who were very impacted in the last boundary adjustment. Don’t see it. But at least I understand what you’re saying.
