Since Joe has taken office, I've gone days, even weeks at a time without thinking about the White House. I know it's selfish of me not to think of the bottom lines of media companies, but frankly it has been a relief. Just quiet, boring competence.
While I agree - and thanks for the reminder - I think it is stunning that there is not a younger person ready to be embraced by Biden and all Democrats. Having campaigned for Biden after Pete bowed out, I am disappointed. No slight to Biden - he’s been great, but this is ridiculous. I think a strong third party candidate will emerge.
I'm from Indiana and a huge Pete supporter. I still support him. But the Bernie supporters absolutely savaged Buttigieg. Lost their goddamn minds. That's part of how Biden rose to the top. (Biden's long and deep connections with Black politicians were more of a factor I think.) With Biden having decided he's going to run for another term, the Democrats basically lost their opportunity to support a young politician (whether that was Buttigieg or otherwise) for eight years back in 2019-2020. Honestly, Biden has been better than I expected. A much more deft politician than I anticipated and governed further to the left than any President since probably Carter. Maybe LBJ.
