What the heck is wrong with the editing in this show? Natasha: Living with an addict was really difficult. Sarah: INCREDIBLE! I have to tell you about this podcast that has transformed my sex life! Not the exact words, but the gist of it. So unprofessional.
I think the issue is with the ad stipulations. Ads must be worked into a podcast between a certain timeframe and advertisers pay different amounts for placement during different times of the podcast. It's a whole formula. Some smart people figured out the optimal time period of when people are most honed in and really listening to a podcast. That time is usually in the middle; people are usually listening while doing something else by the middle of the podcast (working, driving, cooking, etc.) and therefore unable to easily skip through the ads so they have to listen. The cost of ad space in a middle of a podcast is so much higher than at the beginning or end, which are the most skipped time periods. What Sarah doesn't do that other heavy-topic podcasters do is take a pause. I'm assuming she probably self-edits and maybe isn't great at it, ha. Other podcasts, like those on true crime, will say something like "okay, and now let's take a pause and clean our palates" and then the ad will play.
