I think the Joel/Midge plotline has been very clearly wrapped up. As has been said by both Midge and Joel, but also by Suzy when she asked Joel to hello her manage Midge's money-- they are always going to love each other, but they are never getting back together again. [/quote]

Except it hasn’t been wrapped up. As evidenced by the fact that they divorced then remarried an episode later, and were still technically married for the entire fourth season. I was also just rewatching the finale where midge referred to Joel as her husband in her set and said they were “still something.” But maybe they’re just bound to be complicated, like a Lucy/Desi dynamic.[/quote]

I mean it's been wrapped up in that this IS their relationship, and it's exactly as you've said: They are always going to be entwined with another. But any viewer thinking this show is going to end with the two of them together-- that's not going to happen.[/quote]
