The UVA hype on this site is outrageous. Globally UVA isn't even ranked top 200.
Notre Dame ranking at QS https://www.topuniversities.com/universities/university-notre-dame Notre Dame #183 https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/university-notre-dame I wouldn’t be bragging too much about ND either. Both schools are not heavily hitters internationally.
We are much more interested in the Undergraduate ranking. We'll worry about Graduate stuff some other time somewhere else. The fact is that Notre Dame is the only solid T20 school from the list by the de facto official ranking = USN&WR. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities Enough already.
ND is not a “ top 20 school” as you keep posting because that USNWR rank is only for universities - it does not include the very top colleges like Pomona. Also please note UVA is 25 on that same list you keep citing. Considering there are over 4,000 institutions of higher learning in the US, I think your constant “but ND is a top 20 school and so much better than UVA!” to be a bit absurd and disingenuous, especially since ND is 85 percent Catholic. I certainly didn’t want my DCs to apply to ND. You are comparing apples to oranges
They have separate ranking for liberal arts colleges. USN&WR is the flagship ranking, however it's just a reference, so don't get too obsessed. So ND is #19 for national universities for undergraduates. When we say T10 T20 T50, we are talking about National Universities. Pomona is #4 for national liberal arts for undergraduates. So if you are interested in LAC, then you can reference that. My kid would not apply to LAC or go to a school like UVA where 70% of the kids are from Virginia and 50% from Northern VA. (didn't apply any LAC. Applied UVA for a back up, got accepted, but not at the bottom of the list) Those are all personal preferences, so who cares about your or my kid's personal preference or taste but since you mentioned your preference. And you are right it's apples and oranges, so USN&WR has separate categories for National University and Liberal Arts. So the bottom line is that ND is a T20 school for Undergraduate National Universities by USN&WR which is the flagship ranking for Undergraduates..
