It's hard because social justice issues are important to me, I want our transgender students supported, I do not believe in banning books from school libraries, BUT I also have high standards for my children's education. I wish liberals could manage both at the same time. I don't understand why they've become exclusive of each other. Liberals are going to lose all the diverse supporters they have if they don't keep academic standards high. I don't know why they think non-white parents want a focus on emotional health over learning. I think that's a white construct, and honestly, rather demeaning. We go to a elementary with a high population of first and second generation immigrants, a very diverse group, and what I've seen from the parents I've gotten to know is that they want a strong academic education. Many already have strong multi-generation families - what they really need is a fantastic education for their youngest generation. [/quote]
