Not PP but having different opinions doesn’t mean someone is out of touch, it means they do not agree with you. I’m not happy with the SB either but I think right wingers completely astroturfed social media-including this forum-and convinced parents Democrats alone are responsible for the fall of education. Ignoring the changing demographics that contribute to local systems being overwhelmed. Ignoring that Republican led states often completely undermine public education and do not have good outcomes. Ignoring that CRT is not a thing. And that outsiders were brought in to stir crap up. That charter schools and vouchers have failed miserably in most cases bc they are not held to any standards. You can call me names, be patronizing, etc, I still do not agree with you PPs. And yes, I am paying attention. I will vote for SB who are focused on academics in 2023. But this? Sticking it to the Dems when there is so much more at stake? Nah.
Democrats alone run the fcps school board, the lcps school board, the aps school board, the fcc school board, the arps school hoard and the Virginia Departmemt of Ed and have for many years. So yes, without exception, the democratic party owns all of the school issues in northern Virginia.
And none of that changed by electing Youngkin. Congrats on accomplishing nothing.
No, the leadership at the VDOE will change. Or, it will as long as he keeps his promises. And that will have a ripple effect on the standards our county public schools systems use. Will the new Secretary of Education green light standards that remove pre-Algebra through Algebra II, making it nearly impossible for military families to transition in and out of Virginia with kids in 8th-10th grade? Will the social studies changes to the SOL stay as they are (I'm loosely opposed to at least some of the CRT-lite-in-the-classroom horror stories out there, but I like the new SOL standards that round out our history lessons)? What will happen with the existing, optional-to-implement SEL standards? All this comes from VDOE. Also from VDOE - dealing with complaints about violations of SPED laws, something VDOE has done poorly with in the past few years. Youngkin promised gatherings of SPED parents he would change that; will he keep that promise? Another thing that will change is the House of Delegates. Some of what VDOE does is implement the practical side of laws passed by the General Assembly and pass them down. With a split general assembly, we might see different laws passed related to education than we would have otherwise.
