DC had about 10 years of reasonably adult governance through the Mayor's office and city council. David Catania, Carol Schwartz, Vincent Grey, Anthony Williams and others were moderating influences and put the city's finances in order. Then we got the Kwame Brown era & corruption came roaring back. Now you have the "progressive era" where grandstanding for social justice is all that really matters. Fortunately I saw which way the winds were blowing and escaped the city two years ago.
You are conveniently missing the Graham and Evans corruption eras, which were around "back then" and continued for a long time. Their corruption pales in comparison to Brown and is only runner up to Barry in recent DC history. In any case, its not a competition. But lets not pretend that these guys were not thieving and stealing while everyone else was trying to be "adults". The current era has got to be the worst though. I could not in my wildest dreams imagine that government could be run based on what slogans get the most likes and retweets any given day. It's like a Black Mirror episode, but instead of being ominous its just embarrassing. Say what you want about corrupt politicians, but most of them at least knew how to butter the bread. Although they got a cut, they ensured that lots of other people were taken care of. These folks are only taking care of their social media presence.
Speaking of Evans… [twitter]https://twitter.com/cuneytdil/status/1447742481634926600?s=21[/twitter]
