Unfortunately, I tend to agree with you. I miss David Catania and Tony Williams. All of the economic good that happened in the city over the last 20 years is due in no small part to the vision of Tony Williams, who was a force for creating economic economic development on the District's underutilized waterfront---thus today we have the Wharf and the Navy Yard.

But NO ONE on the current council, with the possible exception of Brooke Pinto, has any business experience whatsoever and they view the city's economy not as something to be preserved and enhanced but as something to be pillaged.

LOL, Pinto worked for Racine and her parents bought the Ward 2 seat. No, she has ZERO real world experience.

You are conveniently missing the Graham and Evans corruption eras, which were around "back then" and continued for a long time. The current era has got to be the worst though. I could not in my wildest dreams imagine that government could be run based on what slogans get the most likes and retweets any given day. It's like a Black Mirror episode, but instead of being ominous its just embarrassing.

Say what you want about corrupt politicians, but most of them at least knew how to butter the bread. Although they got a cut, they ensured that lots of other people were taken care of. These folks are only taking care of their social media presence.

The decline of "good neighborhoods" is because there is only a finite number of people with high disposal incomes that can afford to pay premium for housing. In that past those people would all pay for the same old neighborhoods: Dupont, Chevy Chase, Capitol Hill, and Cleveland Park. Logan Circle was eventually added to this list. The city has now created a brand new premium neighborhood at the Wharf which is leaching away young professionals that would otherwise be paying a premium for that Cleveland Park condo. A similar thing is happening right now a Walter Reed/Brightwood. Those old neighborhoods are now ageing out with a lack of new investment. The land value won't go down but eventually the structures will depreciate enough that it will be worthwhile for new buyers to come in and do gut renovations and we then see a new cycle. The city has also made a conscientious effort for "burden sharing" poverty in Ward 3, with predictable results. With the new Comp Plan, I think we will see a lot of new investment along Wisconsin between Tenleytown and Friendship Heights.
