That seems to be an awfully big lead to overcome, even under the circumstances.  Todd likely did better with long time residents than recent gentrifiers, but I’m not sure there are that many more of them who would have voted absentee or that the swing would be that big.

PP who asked about absentee ballots here--I agree.  There were a lot of comments on our listserv from Todd supporters who claimed that nobody knew George, or mentioned that they've known Todd for decades, or that "real" DC residents support Todd.  Also a lot of ad hominem attacks on George supporters.  I think all of this may have backfired and pushed people to vote for George.[/quote]
