I may be a gentrifier, but I care really deeply what happens in the city and in my ward. I have never voted for Bowser, Fenty, or Todd - they were all bad and only cared about CC/SP. It is time for new blood, new ideas, and Janeese is sharp, has deep ties to the ward, and we need more women on the council. She gets credit for building a grassroots campaign and co-opting a bit of the Shirley Chisholm swagger. Good on her.
Shirley Chisholm? Really? That’s all we need.

Congratulations!
DC is the laughingstock of the nation.

I strongly believe that the results we are seeing right now ONLY reflect in-person voting. Of course, DC BoE is not sharing any info at this time.

44% for Brandon Todd
That's a pretty sizeable lead.
Is it possible it could be overturned once all the absentee ballots are counted? My neighborhood is full of elderly/longtime DC residents, and I imagine many of them sent in absentee ballots.
That seems to be an awfully big lead to overcome, even under the circumstances. Todd likely did better with long time residents than recent gentrifiers, but I’m not sure there are that many more of them who would have voted absentee or that the swing would be that big.
It is rhetoric like this from the Todd camp that pushed me to vote for George. People who have lived here longer are "residents" but people who moved here more recently are "gentrifiers"? They are ALL residents and deserved to be treated as such by their councilperson
Oh, and I grew up in DC so am not taking this personally- just think that everyone should have a voice no matter how long they have been here.
