54% for Janeese Lewis George 44% for Brandon Todd That's a pretty sizeable lead.
Is it possible it could be overturned once all the absentee ballots are counted? My neighborhood is full of elderly/longtime DC residents, and I imagine many of them sent in absentee ballots.
That seems to be an awfully big lead to overcome, even under the circumstances. Todd likely did better with long time residents than recent gentrifiers, but I’m not sure there are that many more of them who would have voted absentee or that the swing would be that big.
It is rhetoric like this from the Todd camp that pushed me to vote for George. People who have lived here longer are "residents" but people who moved here more recently are "gentrifiers"? They are ALL residents and deserved to be treated as such by their councilperson Oh, and I grew up in DC so am not taking this personally- just think that everyone should have a voice no matter how long they have been here.
It just makes me laugh. I moved here in 2015 and posted upthread about a bad experience with Todd and that experience (and resulting irritation) was a true bonding experience for me with my next door neighbor, who was born in his house (that his dad bought when it was first built) and has lived here all his life. He has nothing but contempt for Todd. The idea that longtime residents support Todd is built on wishful thinking from his supporters. He's got 42% of the vote in the 2014 special election and barely escaped the 2016 primary with 49% of the vote. His base of support with residents is just myth and propaganda.
