Not sure why all the hate on here trying to help those in need. If they don't have the score or stats, just give them a boost, just big enough to overcome the next competitive student. Who doesn't like a little boost for hundreds and thousands of years of injustice?
The issue is not with setting aside seats for those TRULY affected by the injustice. It's about how it is exercised. The beneficiaries are now what I considered to be already emancipated - rich blacks, or those that were not at all affected - recent African immigrants. Others (Hispanics) do not deserve any set-aside. if they do, so should the Chinese, Japanese and Indians. in all three cases, you need to be able to identify descendants of the families actually affected (e.g. people descended from Chinese railroad gang workers). No one cares about taking care of the truly needy but instead fill a quota of some sort in the name of "holistic diversity". Sure a private school can do what they want, as long as they give up their "non-profit" status (what a joke) and any federal funds/kickbacks they may get. A part of my money goes into those subsidies and I do not want to fund organizations that indulge in activities that go against my beliefs. And get your facts straight. No one has suffered from "hundreds and thousands" of years of injustice. We haven't been around that long.
