This country can benefit from more affirmative action lawyers, doctors, senators, presidents, neurosurgeons, rocket scientists... High stats aren't all that. You can have significantly lower stats - be a C student - and you, too, can become the president of the u.s. Diversity has its purpose - it's for the greater good.

standardized tests are not "objective assessments of intellect." They measure prepping (and the money to prep) and test taking skills. Not at all the same as intellect.
Actually you’re dead wrong. Standardized tests are an excellent predictor of academic successs. And as much as you’d like to believe that prepping can dramatically move the needle, studies have show that it has minimal impact.

standardized tests are not "objective assessments of intellect." They measure prepping (and the money to prep) and test taking skills. Not at all the same as intellect.

You have to think, greater good of the community. As one famous American president said, forgot who, "My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
Imagine what an URM neurosurgeon, a rocket scientist, can do for the under-served communities. Imagine what an affirmative-action African-American president can do for the nation. Those who are young will be able to come up thinking we've always had black presidents in the U.S. history.

Sure a private school can do what they want, as long as they give up their "non-profit" status (what a joke) and any federal funds/kickbacks they may get. A part of my money goes into those subsidies and I do not want to fund organizations that indulge in activities that go against my beliefs.
And get your facts straight. No one has suffered from "hundreds and thousands" of years of injustice. We haven't been around that long.

Completely agree, if it goes to the really deserving and not the pretenders. BTW, Harvard could also spend it's billions to start schools in under-represented areas (where the real poor/URMs live and not where those who are already emancipated live), bring in top notch teachers and teach them how to compete for admissions at top notch colleges without any "handicaps" during the admission process. In fact, all the richie rich colleges can pool their resources and do this instead of doling out seats to the pretenders.
Harvard should start schools in under-represented areas from the get go, from pre-kindergarten. It shall be known as Harvard Experimental College, providing pre-K, kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school education education comparable to top private boarding schools in the nation. It shall be for "under-represented areas (where the real poor/URMs live..." Those who are funneled through the fast track shall be provided with a guaranteed admission to Harvard. Further, it shall be funded by self-perpetuating and munificently funded Harvard endowment.
