What an ignorant perspective!  The more recent immigrants, in fact, have assimilated, in many ways, more than their Irish, Italian, etc, predecessors.   Take note that Little Italy in Baltimore and NYC, long standing Irish bars in many major cities, Little Havana in Miami, and Chinatown in NYC and SF would not exist if those communities "assimilated" quickly.  Same with Little Saigon in NoVa and Hasidic communities in NYC.[/quote]

So you are going up to and asking people if they are immigrants and how long they have been here? Just want to confirm how you know this.

My Buba (grandma) immigrated from Poland and was here for some 40 years until her death in 1985 and her English was horrible.[/quote]
Your Jewish grandmother arrived here from Poland in the 1940s? That alone was quite a feat. The Jewsih population in Poland was almost completely wiped out - worst hit of all the countries.[/quote]
