I have been colouring my hair since the age of 30 - am now 65. My hair was dark brown, but is now silver white. I have tried to do it at home myself many times, but it's such a mess, all the dark brown dye all over the bathroom, and scared it gets into my eyes. I even bought a special applicator brush - you load the colour into it, it has a nozzle with rubber tips with holes, press the button, and the colour comes out. It says "root applicator brush", but really is not very efficient for roots only, and best for doing only the whole head. Roots need a lot more skill. I go the salon mostly. My hair also grows insanely fast. 4 to 5 days is all I have, then see the roots. Touch it up with mascara until my next visit. 6 months ago was my last colour at the salon. I had decided to leave it to grown out. Guess what ? I have not left my house for six months. A bit due also to mild depression after I lost my younger sister suddenly in July 2017. I had not even seen her for 18 years, apart from a fleeting visit in 2013, where I only saw her 3 times. I live in Switzerland. It suited me fine at the time. But I'm now ready to move on. So, I have more than 4 inches of grey (silver mine is) roots, it's ALL my roots - my hair is just below my shoulders. My daughter and husband says it's lovely, leave it - what !! My hubby calls me Brigitte (for Brigitte Bardot, who has that white front to her hair, and is not even a brunette like me, but blonde !) And I feel like a recluse just like she is supposed to be. I feel old, I feel like a skunk, half black and white, all white on the top, and the rest black - well dark brown hair colour is nearly black, honestly. So think I'm off to the salon this week. BUT, you raised a question. Is it Goldwell changing the texture of your hair? My former hairdresser Carol, used L'oréal. My hair was always in tip top condition. She was the sole owner and worker, and retired. I then went elsewhere - everywhere uses only Goldwell. Except for very expensive salons. My hair has never been the same since I left Carol Coiffeur in 2013. So you could have a point about Goldwell. I'm not fan. They even have to leave it on for 40 mins, instead of 30, because otherwise the colour does not "take" and leaves me with a gingery hue.
