As my roommate's boyfriend sneaked inside the bedroom and spent the night with her, I asked for a different roommate; Not only was my request denied, I was told that I had to keep an open mind  and that this was not the Middle East. I was 16 at the time. I had  already visited France and Italy and never experienced such rude and discriminating people.
Here in the USA, My family and I have experienced discrimination numerous times, but never overtly. [/quote]
