I agree, it is deeply misogynistic. What about Helen's mother - the ultimate door mat who accepts back her cheating husband when he's dumped by his gf. Its all horrible really. Each woman fits into a classic cliche : Shrews (Helen & Louisa), whores (Allison & French lady and her students), doormats (Esposito and Helen's mom). And that wasn't the first rape we've seen. Season 1 - Noah's perspective of the sex Allison and Cole have outside their house against the car. And Jennifer Esposito is so wasted in this show. She should be a lead character.
What, what? Why are Juliette and her students "whores?" Why is Nina a doormat? For that matter, why is Allison a "whore" but Noah isn't? Why is Helen's mother a doormat, but not Cole--who would have taken back Allison at any time, regardless of how she has treated him?
I was talking about "misogyny". I'm sure Noah is a whore, but he's not female. Do you want me to post a definition of "misogynistic" for you?
Would you like me to post a definition of "double standard?" Why is the portrayal of women in this show misogynistic when men are portrayed as equally flawed? If both Allison and Noah are portrayed as "whores," where is the misogyny? If both Cole and Helen's mother are portrayed as doormats, again, where is the misogyny?
I dunno- where is the scene of Helen choking Noah during sex, and him being obviously distressed and sobbing afterwards? Where is Cole being raped against a tree? Where is the straw men's rights activist character who later chalks his beliefs up to an uncontrollable desire to screw Helen? Maybe start there?
