Stanford would have to take a 25 percent payout forever then the big ten might take them but probably wouldn’t because a malcontent member is poison.
Big ten doesn’t need Stanford. Stanford has very limited leverage right now
Depends upon how the Big Ten Conference feels about locking up the West Coast & about the tremendous benefits to be derived from cooperation regarding research & academics.
I still think that the B1G will offer both schools. If you don’t see any movement soon, I expect this will be the reason why.
How being in the same athletic conference translates into research cooperation is wishful thinking at best. At the end of day revenue / $$ will be the primary deciding factor
You don’t understand the Big Ten and how its leaders think. If they would have to do it over again, Nebraska would not be admitted because it’s not an AAU school and its academic ranking is very low in comparison to the rest of the conference.
It was an AAU when it joined, but lost it soon afterwards. I guarantee the B10 regrets that decision.
The big ten has great camaraderie and the schools are humble with respect for all members. It is a great Midwestern roots polite group. The only school with a measure paranoid defensiveness is Michigan.
Paranoid defensiveness? That comment sounds just plain weird.
DP (OP here) I understand the poster whose comment you are calling weird. He/she is right. Michigan folks have a thing about Northwestern being perceived as academically superior to U Michigan. Not started by NU related individuals; started by insecure U Michigan students--who have nothing about which to be insecure as Michigan is an outstanding university.
So you can speak for all, “Michigan folks.” That’s weird too. By the way, there is a lot more to a school than just undergraduate rankings at USNWR.
Yours is the weird comment. I think that you are very defensive and that you misunderstand my comments.
It’s not defensive to point out unverifiable hyperbole. Unless you are able to provide some relative data, perhaps provided by the world famous ISR at Michigan, then your comments are simply conjecture. I’m certain that there are plenty of students at Michigan who feel that NU is not academically superior. I’m even more certain that there are plenty of students at Northwestern who feel otherwise. That doesn’t mean that blanket statements such as “paranoia defensiveness” that the poster used should go unchallenged as if they were fact. Frankly, it’s insulting.
You definitely have too much time on your hands.
