But there may be one other reason focused on development--some clubs at U12 will have two Academy I (Boys) or Pre-ECNL (Girls) teams so that both can play 11v11 in their Spring season. I don't see a problem with that as along as expectations are set for the kids--and an 11v11 between those two teams in that Spring league would probably make it clear, but still give both teams a chance to get ready for U13.
