I can't believe people are seeing racial overtones to this!!! Are we forgetting that Kanye put a nude silicone doll of Taylor in his video WITHOUT HER CONSENT? How is that ok? Look at all the people (rightfully) freaking out about the model posting a pic of an anonymous nude woman at the gym. How is that so different from what Kanye did to Taylor in his video? That was LOW. He is not the victim here.
He's a joke. A low-class joke, only tolerated because he's black.
Right, he's rich and famous for being black. That aaaand the 21 grammy awards. He is extremely talented. Stop dismissing his work because you don't get it.
Are you defending the fact that he put a naked image of Taylor in his video without her consent?
I found this critique of the video to be pretty even handed: http://www.vox.com/2016/7/6/12053398/kanye-west-famous-art-exploitation I personally come down on the side of art not exploitation. I think he is using his personal experience to make a commentary on fame and the positioning is explicitly pulled from a famous painting (ie, he didn't choose to show the women more than the men arbitrarily). I also agree with the author's point that art frequently inappropriately objectifies women, but I thought it was really provocative. I also feel like what it speaks to is extremely germane to Taylor Swift. She is someone who has created a huge veneer over herself called 'fame' that is both protective and self serving. I think if you take a moment to really think about that video you realize why Kanye is famous and why so many people think he's so talented. Portraying all those people like they are in a snuff film, like vulnerable humans, when almost all of them have been reduced to caricatures in the public eye is ACTUALLY really thought provoking.
He stepped over the line by making them naked. Why not put a tank top on them or something?
I actually think it kind of adds to the metaphor. It all just seems super vulnerable. And the idea that when it all goes away these people are real people, real bodies, real humans and society's obsession with them is actually kind of creepy. Like someone filming them sleeping naked. But agree to disagree, art speaks differently to everyone!
If he wants to put his own d*ck out there and his wife's bare boobs on display that is his stupid decision to make. But using Taylor's nude image to promote HIMSELF is out of line. He is an ahole. And I really think that Taylor wishes he would just leave her alone.
exactly. he is a creepy harasser. that may or may not be art, but he can't really complain when people call him out for it.
