Keep in mind that when the First St Tunnel project finally gets rolling full steam ahead 1st St may be entirely closed to southbound traffic north of RI Ave at times over a 2 year period. All of that relief traffic that usually cuts over on Channing will be funneled further down N Cap. And then the pending McMillan development following completion of the tunnel ...
Thanks for the heads up! Any idea when they are going to close 1st? Closing 1st NW above Channing has been hell for N. Cap - literally doubled our commute time to school!
Google "First Street Tunnel Project". They actually don't have all of the traffic details worked out, but it's a fair bet that one side of the roadway will be totally or partially closed starting late 2014/2015 as they dig a giant trench. They would choose to keep the northbound direction open because ambulances need that path to the hospital. Lots of information out there to read. We live in the neighborhood and expect traffic hell for close to the next decade combined with whatever ends up happening with the sand filtration site. If you plan to use N Cap to the new MV it would be wise to start testing alternate routes now.
O.M.G! Thanks again!
