I take 1st St NW back down. Turning into Channing St after passing Michigan Ave from N. Cap. Even with all the stop signs, it's better than going down N. Cap b/c I hate P St NW - and trying to turn into First St NW. It's usually backed up to T St or about and people block the box on 1st and P St NW.
Keep in mind that when the First St Tunnel project finally gets rolling full steam ahead 1st St may be entirely closed to southbound traffic north of RI Ave at times over a 2 year period. All of that relief traffic that usually cuts over on Channing will be funneled further down N Cap. And then the pending McMillan development following completion of the tunnel ...
Thanks for the heads up! Any idea when they are going to close 1st? Closing 1st NW above Channing has been hell for N. Cap - literally doubled our commute time to school!
Moving is looking better and better...
I'll sell you my house, if you can find me a house near new Creative Minds
DC goes to Yu Ying which is actually near the new Creative Minds location so it won't work. I live near new MV - literally a five minute walk so I need to swap houses with someone in Brookland who is sending their kid to MV and works downtown.![]()
I have an idea for a new thread "swap your house with me"
. yeah, we're shut out. Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:

Google "First Street Tunnel Project". They actually don't have all of the traffic details worked out, but it's a fair bet that one side of the roadway will be totally or partially closed starting late 2014/2015 as they dig a giant trench. They would choose to keep the northbound direction open because ambulances need that path to the hospital. Lots of information out there to read. We live in the neighborhood and expect traffic hell for close to the next decade combined with whatever ends up happening with the sand filtration site. If you plan to use N Cap to the new MV it would be wise to start testing alternate routes now.

In that scenario I would just take 11th (or 9th) to Q. You could take U/Florida to 1st as well, but the blocks between R and P get very backed up as mentioned earlier. In the mornings going east on Fla it isn't bad except for occasional backups at the RI/NJ Ave intersection.
You couldn't take M from the NoMa area, it's one way going the wrong way from that direction.
