When we travel and people ask where we are from, DH says DC. He does work there but ... I say Arlington and they blank then say oh the cemetery .... I get DH's pointl
: Why not just say you're from VA? I have a cousin who lives in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Who the hell knows where Cedarburg is? She never says that; she says she's from Wisconsin.
I do! super cute town!
The point of that post went right over your head.
Actually, you should provide a history since where are you from is different than where you currently live. You can't just move somewhere and start claiming that localities cachet for yourself. It needs to be earned.
I was born up north and lived in that state for 8 years. I then moved overseas for 5 years. I then moved back to the US to the Midwest for 4 years, and then I moved to a far southern state for 3 years. At 20 I moved to DC. I'm 55 now. When people ask me where I'm from I say I was born in [up north state], but I've lived in DC my whole adult life. I never mention the town where I was born unless somebody asks; unless you're familiar with that state, you wouldn't know the town.
