[quo Stop. I've watched more than one match and the "strategy" is to boot it long to the right wing and hope she could out run the girl marking her and corral the ball. In case you were wondering, she could not effectively do either. And yes, this is an ECNL team.
Lol, depends on the right wing!
The one some guy was bragging about yesterday, probably his kid, and how skills could be developed (they clearly haven't been) but speed can't (other girls are just as fast now).
One super fast and the other super slow. You decide
I have been around this for many years. Skilled kids are skilled from the ulittles and up. I have never seen a kid who struggles with touch, vision and technical skill develop it at the older ages. They will be better vs someone who does not play but will stay the same vs their peers. Technical skill and speed are similar in that both can be developed but only with in the natural range of the player.
This might be one of the dumber things I have read - I saw a whole BUNCH of kids that had weak skills end up playing endless hours of pickup soccer over at the fields in DC during COVID. Bunches of High Schoolers that basically spent the day on the field because school was on zoom. That time was absolutely transformative - night and day difference on skills, and confidence with the ball in tight spaces. It was like they were different people it was so dramatic. Technical skills aren’t governed by genetics in the same way speed or size is, you absolutely can train your way to another skill level (and at the pro level, look at Antonee Robinson over the past few years - dramatic improvement in technical ability and he’s kept his speed).
