They need to also include a breakdown of degrees held. I’m an attorney with 15 years experience making around 150k. I hardly think that is some wildly outlandish salary for a mid-career attorney. Hell I make a lot less than the tech bros straight out of college.
Totally agree. too am an attorney and I think attorney salaries, and some other advanced degrees and tech fields, are far from outlandish. But TBH, there’s a lot of employees in various administrative and HR-type roles that hang around government long enough and get paid way more than they should or would in the private sector. And I think a lot of feds know this if they’re being honest. This would make the tiniest smidgen of a difference in the grand scheme of cutting costs from the overall federal budget, but it also isn’t something I’d personally have a problem with as a result of this DOGE effort, to have some sort of assessment and reset of grade inflation. It also may help with optics and perception. Going back to the initial point, I don’t think the average lawyer salary is the problem. However, DOGE and MAGA world will also say there’s too many lawyers, and you can chop that with less regulations, enforcement and oversight.
I think it's funny you think DOGE would consider lawyers valuable. Right now there are DOJ attorneys coming close to getting bar complaints and contempt proceedings in federal court by raising frivolous arguments. Not sure the private sector attorney market is as lucrative as you think if DOJ attorneys are willing to risk their professional licenses for this clown show.
