My kids go to camp all summer. A mix of sleep away and day camps (typically outdoor adventure stuff, rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, wilderness survival). I don't know. I ask myself. Would I want to stay at home and hang out with some friends and go to the pool or snorkel in the FL keys like my one kid is doing? Or go kayaking every day like another? I mean I pick the fun vacation stuff. My childhood summers consisted of generally spending all day inside because it was 115 degrees.
Wait so the parents that rationalized scheduling their kids every move all summer think their kid would do nothing otherwise, yet all these posters say how great their summers were and everything they did and how they enjoyed it with their own friends and family.
well, i don't know about other posters. My 80s/90s summers weren't anything amazing. We largely stayed inside because it was hot during the day and my mom would come home and feel the TV to make sure we hadn't watched it. So it was just my brother and I entertaining ourselves in the house all day. We did go out at night, but I wasn't doing anything I want my kids to be doing lol. So now my kids go to camp all summer. Camp that is basically vacation for them, so it seems fun to me! They still go to the pool, have sleep overs, eat popsicles, etc. from 3pm on when they get home from camp (on the weeks they aren't in sleep away) Not sure why everything is all or nothing! Some kids love camp. Some kids love staying at home. Some parents are better parents when their kids are home and some are better when they are doing things.
