I'm stuck on the "especially because his close friend got in."  I know that has to hurt--  totally do the the letter of commitment, etc., but also let him know that he could apply to other UW schools besides MAdision-- I imagine some could even be open enrollment.  He may even enjoy starting at a smaller school the first year then transfering to Madison.  (Lots of kids do this!) And he could cheer for UW at the big football games etc. in MAdision with his friend.  [/quote]
