Sure, the kid can be sad.  But mom admitted that the kid isn't concerned, but MOM is turning it into drama.  So now a kid who was handling the situation as well as can be expected is going to get sad and upset not because she didn't get into school, but because she let down her mom.  That's a crappy parenting move.

She can be sad all she wants.  But she needs to do it behind closed doors and not let others know, especially her kid!  Otherwise it's a crappy parenting move.
