According to a British analysis, giving the booster to about a million people would prevent, on average, one death. That is, your risk of death from not getting the shot is about 1 in a million. You also have about a 1 in a million risk from dying if you drive 200 miles. I got a booster, because I think there are slight benefits, but the emphasis is on slight. People who are already vaxxed and decide not to get a booster are not idiots. (I do think people who refused a first vaccine are idiots.) Sources: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-autumn-2023-vaccination-programme-jcvi-advice-26-may-2023/appendix-1-ukhsa-report-estimating-the-number-needed-to-vaccinate-to-prevent-covid-19-hospitalisation-for-booster-vaccination-in-autumn-2023-in-engla https://injuryfacts.nsc.org/home-and-community/safety-topics/deaths-by-transportation-mode/
Isn’t the latest shot considered a new Covid shot and not a booster. In other words that it’s a new and necessary vaccine instead of “boosting” historic protection?
Well, whatever you call it, this is the analysis of the effects of the latest shot. The reason that the benefits are a tiny fraction of the benefits of the first shot because people have existing immunity, from prior exposure and/or prior vaccines.
