There is a guy named Ballard who works on human trafficking. And human trafficking happens, and is horrible.  That much is true.

But the rest, that Ballard was some kind of big deal CIA type clandestine operative, the central plot of a brother and sister lured by a photo shoot, that Ballard crossed uncharted jungles solo and fought and killed terrorists and cartel bosses singlehandedly to rescue children is complete fiction and totally made-up. They pay to see a movie where a middle aged dad rescues kittens from a dangerous jungle crawling with tigers.

NO KIDDING - it's because it's escapist [i]fiction[/i] created for entertainment value.  Nobody is going around pretending Mission Impossible's Ethan Hunt is a real person and that the MI franchise is based on a true story and that everything in the movies actually happened in real life.

That's why it's a little weird that conservative Christians are running around doing exactly that with this movie.  But then again, those same people believe that everything in the Bible is the absolute and literal truth.  So, I guess that's where their fundamental disconnect comes from.[/quote]
