I’m curious that no one here is interested in motive. All the fixation in this thread is on that “what” and the “how”, but no one is asking about the “why”. That’s not science.
What motive matters? He walked into a school and shot 11 victims - killing 3.
So you don’t care about what prompted him to do that? There HAS to be a reason. I’d like to know what it is. Why wouldn’t you?
DP. Why does it matter? There is no justifiable reason to kill off your classmates. The issue is that he COULD and he DID. So the "what" and "how" are very important.
I agree with you about that. But you are willfully dismissing any interest in motive. And motive is important. Motive is what *makes* people do something, not simply possessing the means. Did you drive a car this morning? Why didn’t you run over a bunch of kids at a bus stop? You had the means to do so. Why didn’t you? Did you use a knife in the kitchen last night? Why didn’t you stab your spouse with it? You had the means to do so. Do you keep a gun in your home? Why didn’t you go on a shooting spree last weekend? You had the means to do so. Do you have a gas can for your lawn mower? Why didn’t you pour it on your neighbor’s house and set it on fire? You had the means to do so. So yes, I’d very much like to hear why this student chose to make use of the means available to him. The fact that it was available to him at all is a separate issue.
The motive is irrelevant because it will inevitably turn into victim blaming or excusing the crime. I don’t care if this kid was mentally ill, which apparently all white male shooters are. It didn’t stop him from deliberately picking up *his* gun and taking it to school. He was not insane at the time of the crime so guilty. It he was mentally ill, it’s only relevant to the negligence and recklessness of his dad in giving him a tool of mass murder. If he was bullied, still sucks but it was premeditated murder regardless. He wasn’t in fear for his life when he shot his victims.
