So, we had a friend recently ask and take our child on a week long vacation to keep their kid, an only child, company. We let our child go with great reluctance due to COVID and made sure restrictions were in place around social distancing, activities and masks. Both families were more vigilant about outside contact for two weeks before the trip. I felt like we were doing them a favor to let our child go, TBH. So no, I didn’t send a thank you note or drop off a bottle of wine afterward. I did say thank you over text, but that was it.
You honored them with your child’s presence? Wow, the level of self centeredness is astounding. Your kid had a fun vacation with his/her friend,no? You got a childcare FREE weekend, no? All the extra hours you got because you didn’t have to do it doing childcare is not valuable to you?
Yep, she sounds like my cousin who has 4 kids, claims she “never even notices” when I take my oldest child’s peer for play dates, then makes much of how fun it is for my child/must have been easier for me. Umm... This is after entire weekends/sleepovers, daylong play dates, taking child to the movies, out to dinner, etc. BUT I have the grace to let it go beca, over a lifetime of love and friendship, my cousin is a great person and friend. She gives me friendship and joy. The mom part of her I can forgive because you have to be kind of crazy to have 4/when you have 4 kids.
