It also shows that people hold grudges and assume the worst.
I would only trust my very closest friends and family to take my oldest during a pandemic. So if they weren’t available for the final greeting and forgot to thank me, I could chalk it up to one busy night and move on. I have a lot of grace, goodwill, love and trust built up with my nearest and dearest.
That said, it sounds like maybe OP was content to send her child up with an acquaintance or a friend of convenience. If she had no goodwill and trust built up with this woman, I can’t imagine why she would send a young child traveling with her during a pandemic.
If it’s truly a good friend; where’s the grace? If it’s not a good friend, why are you entrusting a young child with her during a pandemic?!

We let our child go with great reluctance due to COVID and made sure restrictions were in place around social distancing, activities and masks. Both families were more vigilant about outside contact for two weeks before the trip. I felt like we were doing them a favor to let our child go, TBH. So no, I didn’t send a thank you note or drop off a bottle of wine afterward. I did say thank you over text, but that was it.

You honored them with your child’s presence? Wow, the level of self centeredness is astounding. Your kid had a fun vacation with his/her friend,no? You got a childcare FREE weekend, no? All the extra hours you got because you didn’t have to do it doing childcare is not valuable to you?
