I don't think anyone on this thread has been saying that (haven't read every post, though). The point is that he created a bad situation for himself, when it could have been avoided if he'd come out and established an openly homosexual relationship with someone.  The bad situation is the one many others have been in before him, that he won't be able to credibly deny the allegations, but at the same time won't affirm them either. I mean, if he was really good, he'd say: "Yeah, well so what?". But he won't. He's been working his entire life in the closet. That's probably a step too far, even for him.
