Jon Edward’s similar behavior was disqualifying and she doesn’t get a pass because she’s a woman, a woman of color, a Muslim, etc. if true, it’s so incredibly stupid and narcissistic, so early in her career, and for her children. If we (validly) call for Duncan Hunter exit, so should she. The right has certainly been gunning for her - but she could have avoided this trap.
Duncun Hunter is being asked to resign because he is under indictment. Omar has not been charged with any crimes. Many posters here are very eager to convict when it is not even clear a crime has been committed. Sure, don't give her any passes. But, don't makes demands on her that you don't make on others. As has been pointed out in this thread, Joni Ernst was also accused in divorce documents of having an affair. Should she resign as well?
Duncan Hunter should have resigned prior to being indicted. He abused the public trust. I and many people personally called for it. I also don’t think anyone is asking her to be held to a higher standard - we are saying, many of as liberals, she doesn’t get a pass. Sloppy books and affairs with a staffer are not a good look, reflect poor and reckless judgment, and could indeed be an abuse of power. If Al Franken is essentially harpooned for being socially awkward and overly familiar, then we have entered a new era of accountability. Pelosi should investigate her for ethics violations.
There is a poster above explicitly saying that she should be held to a higher standard. Sure you understand the difference between consensual relationships and unwanted harassment so I don't see any similarity to Frankin (unless Omar's advances to her hired consultant were unwanted). If you are already demanding her resignation, what is the purpose of investigating her? You've already found her guilty. Read the New Yorker piece - and you are the one who invoked me too, actually. You seem to have a different view of cheating than many, particularly women, have. It doesn’t make other people who have different views on the subject wrong. I think any public official new to office or old to office, particularly when they campaign with their adorable young children - should be held accountable for their private behavior if it shows a moral failing or reckless judgment. I feel this way if they are men or women and liberal or right-wing hacks.
